Have you ever paid attention to the negative emotions that you feel when you lose something. The panic, frustration, fear, anger, sadness and the other emotions that can arise as well. No matter what is lost; money, keys, friendships, jewelry, a job, a pet. If the focus is constant on what is lost, the negative emotions will continue to surface. Learning to let go and giving positive energy elsewhere is hard, but necessary.
I recently lost something. It broke my heart and confused me. And for the life of me, I just could not find it. I couldn’t understand how I lost it, where it went and what made it go. It bothered me so. I was frustrated and disappointed with myself. Constant focus on what I lost messed up my day and even my week. After sometime had passed and I wasn’t feeling much better about it. I spoke to a few friends and family. Which uplifted me (it’s such a blessing to have a 9-11 help line of close friends/family to call when you are going through). However, the advice from my 13 year old daughter is what sunk in the most because it was coming from someone so young. She said, “Mom, let it go”.
And that’s exactly what I’m learning to do. Things come and go. People come and go. We just have to learn to let go and focus on what we do have. And appreciate that.
Take a moment and think about something you lost, whatever it may have been. Perhaps it’s a friendship, or a trinket that was given to you by your late grandmother, a job that you loved that you were let go of or quit. You notice those negative feelings? Now, I want you to focus on something that you have in your current possession. Something that God has has truly blessed you with. Perhaps a loving spouse or child, that special pet that welcomes you home with joy each day, the neighbor who is always looking out for you, the new job, the new house, the new book you just bought, the gift that was given, the good laugh you had recently, the money you have in your pocket, the new friend you just made. Thinking on those things, how does that make you feel?… You notice the stress is gone and the positive energy in your heart?
“We know that in everything, God works for the good of those who love Him.” – Rom 8:28
Ladies After Wisdom, it’s hard to let things go. It’s hard to look past things. Yet, it’s necessary. Letting go of something doesn’t mean that you don’t care about it anymore. Letting go just means that you are not allowing any more negative energy and emotions to be fed into the situation. Letting go means you are choosing to focus on and appreciate what you do have while still having faith and believing the best for what you lost. If you have been having a hard time letting go of something, just know that everything with be ok. Everything will work out for the good. While still believing for the best, focus on what you do have. Give energy towards that. God has given us the gift of choice. Choose to focus on the good. L.A.W., I pray for you daily. I love you. All is well ;o)
