When you’ve been blessed, you have an obligation to praise God. I can look back over 2017 and see all of the wonderful things God brought me through and tears begin to stream down my face in wonder. “Why did you choose me, God?” “What have I done to draw you near me and cause you to favor me?” I am absolutely nothing and most of the times I’ve got it 110% WRONG. But God…
In His infinite wisdom and unfailing mercy, He chooses to bless those whom He loves. It isn’t because of anything we have done. It’s not because our faith is so strong. Let’s face it – our faith has failed us time and again. It is simply because He loves us and it is His pleasure to see His children live abundantly blessed lives.
Ephesians 2:8-10 says:
‘God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.’
Did you read that?! We can’t take credit for any of the things God has done for us. It isn’t because of our works or because we’ve been so perfect (because we’re not). So many times I see people working – toiling – in ministry and in life to try to gain grace from God. It is as if they think they owe Him something. Which we do. All God desires is our faith and love. But even that isn’t enough in our finite selves to pay Him for all that He has done for us. The verse referenced above says we were saved by grace when we believed. When you believe on Him is when you get the Blessing poured out for you.
Last year, as many of you readers know, I went through hell and high water. But this morning as I was reflecting on how I overcame, I heard the Holy Spirit whisper, “it was because you believed and you didn’t doubt that I would deliver you.” That brought me to my knees. How humbling is it to think that simply because you believed you were blessed.
So my admonition to you this year is, when you’ve been blessed, send up a praise to let Him know you are most grateful. Humble yourself and realize that its not you and your altogether lovely self. Give glory and praise where it is due and I promise you will see even more fruit blossom in your life. That is my hope for you in 2018. Now go flourish!
