Peach Cobbler with Sugar Cookie Crust

Peach Cobbler

Next to Red Velvet ANYTHING, Peach Cobbler is my favorite dessert. There’s a bit of false truths out there about this masterpiece though. The main one is that it is time consuming to make. Ain’t nobody got time for that! This recipe is not only easy, but it has a SUGAR.COOKIE.CRUST. Let that marinate… a sugar cookie crust y’all. This is actually a collaboration of my aunt’s peach cobbler recipe and a sugar cookie recipe. I’m not going to lie to you, I think her crust recipe ONLY works for her blessed hands so I had to improvise, hence the sugar cookie crust. But let me tell you, this combination is BAE. I don’t make this as often as my family would probably like because…Pinterest LOL. Read More →

Wax Crumbles/Scenterpiece Review

wax crumbles scenterpiece

I have some new goodies for ya! In the never ending quest of making sure my Chateau smells less like a high school football player and more like a tropical oasis, I ran across a lovely site called Wax Crumbles. I saw someone post the products on Instagram and that made me mosey on over and take a peek. I am a sucker for home fragrance products, and this was right up my alley. Wax Crumbles are essentially crumbled up candles with amazing scents. When you receive your package, you can smell it before opening. The owner is a young man named Brandon who has an amazing story of triumph over depression and how he used his gifts to do so. Back to the products! The crumbles come in many different scents, and he has restock events pretty regularly. The cool thing about the restock events is that he brings back discontinued scents and also releases new scents. Let’s get into what I purchased! I actually had more from this order (and placed an order during the most recent restock), but I didn’t want you judging my life!

  • Juicy Pineapple
  • Spring Rain
  • Frootie Loopers
  • Amish Friendship Bread
  • Pink Stressless
  • Red Velvet Cake
  • White Spring
  • Summer Coconut
  • Mojito (freebie because I spent too much money!)

Some of the scents I purchased are not available anymore (insert sad face). The scents smell EXACTLY like their names and the throw is no joke!

You are probably wondering what the doohickey is in the first pic. That, my friends, is a Yankee Candle Scenterpiece. You can burn the crumbles in a wax melter with a candle under it, or something like the Scenterpiece. The girl at Yankee Candle talked me into getting this. I like it a lot. What I ended up doing was taking the YC Scenterpiece cup and melting it and dumping the wax out and put my Wax Crumbles in. I am still on the hunt for empty cups, but I haven’t had any success. I would say having to use the cups is the only bad thing about the warmer. I also found with using the warmer, I end up using more Crumbles, which is fine as I keep using the same scent for a while. I may invest in a smaller melter with a candle to switch to other scents. The melter has a timer on it for 3, 6, and 9 hours and it does not get hot on the outside at all. They come in many different styles and price points ranging from $20-$35. Some are fancy and have lights inside of them as well.

I definitely recommend you get your life and get into these Wax Crumbles. The Scenterpiece I recommend if you are like me and tend to forget candles are burning since it has a timer. Every time Wax Crumbles has a restock, I’m like:

Shrimp Po Boys

The other day, I had a taste for some spicy shrimp but didn’t want to deal with all of the steps of making pasta and sauce. So, I relied on an old favorite I hadn’t made in a while. Enter Shrimp Po Boys!

What you’re gonna need:

Italian bread
EZ peel RAW shrimp (I used 2 bags which is 2 pounds)
Olive Oil
Cajun Seasoning (I use this mixture Click here
Ranch Dressing
Cheese of your choice (I use provolone)

Thaw shrimp. DO NOT put shrimp in hot water. They will be gin to cook. Put frozen shrimp in a bowl and run cold water over shrimp. Let sit for about 20 minutes or so. Shrimp will be ready to peel, no one likes rubbery shrimp.
Peel shrimp and discard shells.shrimp

Rinse shrimp again with cold water to get rid of any tiny shell pieces.

Pour about 1 tablespoon of olive oil on shrimp and add 1 tablespoon of cajun seasoning on shrimp. Toss to coat. I use approximately 1 tablespoon per pound of shrimp. This goes for the oil and the seasoning.

Pre-heat skillet on medium high heat. Add shrimp. In the meantime, turn your oven on broil. After 2 minutes, turn shrimp over. Depending on how hot your skillet is, it may be less that 2 minutes. You can tell when its time to flip when the edges of the shrimp start to curl a bit. Cook on other side for 2 minutes or less. Remove shrimp from pan and transfer to a bowl. For the love of God, do NOT overcook the shrimp. They will actually continue to cook a little in the bowl.

Slice open your Italian roll and add a couple of slices of cheese to one side. Place in the oven until cheese is melted. Add shrimp, ranch, and lettuce. SIDE NOTE: The Ore Ida Bold & Crispy Zesties are BAE. Also for a cheaper option WalMart’s seasoned fries are REALLY Good!

Another Side Note: You may sub the shrimp with chicken if you are not about that seafood life.

Are You Afraid of the Light?

I know you are thinking…Afraid of the light? Don’t you mean the dark? No, I wrote it right the first time…the light. The light I am referring to is not the sunlight, or light from a light bulb, but the light within yourself. Chapter 5 of Matthew talks about The Beatitudes (also known as the Sermon on the Mount) that Jesus preached to the disciples about how to live a righteous life. Verse 14 says “you are the light of the world” and verse 16 says “let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” No matter what you have done in the past, that doesn’t define who you are. You have hopes, dreams, and goals.

I have a confession, I am afraid of MY light. I can celebrate someone else’s light all day long, but mine? I didn’t think I had any light until recently. Queen, you are fabulous, and I’m not just talking about your outer appearance. You are fabulous on the inside. THAT is your light. That dream you have, that passion you have, GO FOR IT! God gave all of us gifts and purpose and we are afraid of tapping into that. I was (and still am a little bit…I’m a work in progress) afraid of MYSELF! God gave me a wonderful heart and a creative and sharp mind and I let the enemy have hold of it for far too long. It’s time I take it back! I was afraid of succeeding…not failing, but SUCCEEDING! I would see people on social media doing what I wanted to do and seemed to be flourishing and I would get discouraged. I had to realize first of all everything may not be what it seems. Second, I am looking at page 97 of their story, not the beginning. I don’t know what it took for them to get where they are. Third, their path is NOT my path. Yes, we may be interested in similar things, but God has a way of using us differently. So the same things that worked for someone else will NOT work for you.

God has a way of getting your attention. He took the aftermath of my miscarriage to transform me. I had to get to the bottom of all the years of conforming to what other people thought I should be, low self esteem, running from God, destructive behaviors, looking for love in ALL the wrong places, grief, anxiety, and depression. I had to see who I REALLY was. I’m still learning who God wants me to be and getting reacquainted with myself, well really meeting her for the first time if we are going to be real about the situation. You get used to being in the dark, that yes, at first the light hurts your eyes. You can’t see that well, but you know it’s beautiful out there and you can’t wait for your eyes to adjust to the scenery before you. That’s where I am, my eyes are adjusting, but I’ve gotten glimpses of what’s before me and from now on the only time I’m cutting the light off is to go to bed at night.

Waiting on the Sun to Rise

It’s been a long time, I shouldna left you…
God has a way of getting your attention, making you realize that you are NOT in control, making you move out of comfort zone, making you trust His plan and ways. Currently I am LITERALLY living Psalm 30:5 “Weeping may last for the night, But a shout of joy comes in the morning.”

So You Think You Had Plans?

We all made plans at a young age on how our lives would be as we became adults. I had this plan where by the time I was 25 I was going to have my Master’s degree in something, be married, and maybe have a kid. I was going to be making decent money, drive a nice car, etc. Wellllll let me tell you something, God laughs at our plans.

The story about the woman at the well in the Bible is a story that makes you take a look at yourself…HARD. The 4th chapter of the Book of John tells the story of a Samaritan woman who went to a well in the middle of the day because she had a “reputation”.

Who Gon Check Me Boo?

who gon check me boo
In the words of Sheree from Real Housewives of Atlanta, my mantra for 2016 is “Who Gon Check Me Boo?” Last Sunday at church, my pastor preached on creating a new start and conquering your fears to live out your purpose. I started to think about all of the things I want to do, the things God wants me to do and how I was irrationally afraid of doing some of these things.
