Are You an Alpha Woman?

Recently, a post came across my Facebook timeline that I shared. It outlined characteristics of an Alpha Woman. As I read it, of course I compared my life to it to see if I met the perceived standards. Yep, I measured up. I then had conversations with a few friends on different occasions about what it meant to be an Alpha Woman and it made me think about the implications. Here are the standards: Read More →

Waiting on the Sun to Rise

It’s been a long time, I shouldna left you…
God has a way of getting your attention, making you realize that you are NOT in control, making you move out of comfort zone, making you trust His plan and ways. Currently I am LITERALLY living Psalm 30:5 “Weeping may last for the night, But a shout of joy comes in the morning.”

So You Think You Had Plans?

We all made plans at a young age on how our lives would be as we became adults. I had this plan where by the time I was 25 I was going to have my Master’s degree in something, be married, and maybe have a kid. I was going to be making decent money, drive a nice car, etc. Wellllll let me tell you something, God laughs at our plans.

OH SH… I Dreamed Too Big!

Earlier this week I was listening to a radio show where the host was speaking about having your prayers answered. He said we are to ASK – BELIEVE – RECEIVE. It sounds so simple, right? But one of the things he made mention of was that sometimes when we ask, we ask amiss (James 4:3). He was saying that we don’t ask for enough. We only ask for what our finite minds believe we’re worth or we’re so modest that we don’t want to ask for more out of fear of being too greedy. Prior to this, I was sitting in a meeting with a veteran business owner and community leader who asked younger entrepreneurs and professionals, “Why do you want to succeed? Why do you want to accumulate wealth? Is it just for you to have more than someone else or is it to give back?”   Read More →

Finding Your Purpose: Your How

how to find your purpose

I have been completely fulfilled through this blog series on finding your purpose. As I have been writing about attaining greater focus, I have forced myself to walk the walk. I guess I have found a purposeful pursuit just through this exercise! This week we’ll go even further by exploring how we will bring these goals to life.  Read More →

Finding Your Purpose: Your When

Finding Your Purpose - When

We’ve been on the journey to finding your purpose for the past few weeks. I’m sure there have been some great discoveries made – I sure have done some deep digging and soul searching. This week’s discovery places the onus to finding your purpose directly in your lap. No more excuses! Often times we know what to do, we know why we need to, but we don’t put a time stamp on when we will make it happen. When we neglect to place deadlines on our goals, they just become fleeting wishes. Did you read that? Let me write it again.

When we neglect to place deadlines on our goals, they just become fleeting wishes.

How many times have you had an idea or “unction” to do something and you don’t write it down or place a deadline on it? Then you look back after something brings that idea back to memory and you say “I wish I had done XYZ then, by now I’d be so much farther along”. Trust me, I’ve done this all too often. But its time out for procrastination. I’m putting my feet to the fire and I’m charging you to do the same. There’s so much in store for us just beyond that first step. I’ve seen God’s grace in so many ways when I’ve just made the first move. I’ve said in a previous post that my friends always seem to think I’m doing or accomplishing so much. It’s not that I am on some kind of goal steroids, its simply because I make a move when I get an idea before I can allow fear, procrastination and other obligations to stand in the way.

If you aren’t convinced that you need to set a date with destiny, let me ask, when was the last time you felt true fulfillment and a deep sense of accomplishment? Go back to that place in your mind and recall how great, how freeing, how present you felt. If it has been too long ago for you to remember, you owe yourself. But if you think back to that time and you smile or brighten up, the answer to your passion and purpose is right there. Think about that instance and why you felt so great.

I am a firm believer that life is not meant to be hard. I believe that we are created to fulfill a destiny and in fulfilling our purpose we are filled up. If you feel defeated and depleted it is likely because you are trying to walk out a destiny or accomplish some feat that isn’t for you to be pursuing in the first place. Life is too short to be miserable or to have a long list of fleeting wishes. When you take your last breath, you should be completely done with your charge. Leave nothing on the table. No wishes or desires should be left unfulfilled because of fear or procrastination. I know this may sound difficult to do, but all it really takes is a dedicated focus and prioritization of your time. Remember last week when I had you write down the things you spend your time on? That was so that you could clear your calendar of the things that waste time, make no sense, and bring you no closer to your destiny and purpose. Now you have no excuse. You can no longer say “I don’t have time to do this”. I am willing to bet you that we just found at least 5 hours of free time per week for you to spend pursuing purposeful activities.

Now that you have more time, when is your deadline for achieving your goal? Write it down in your journal. If your goal is large (and it should be challenging) break that goal down into bite sized chunks with deadlines on them. Don’t get overwhelmed by looking at the end goal – this is when procrastination brews. Just look at it as incremental steps that will ultimately bring you to your goal. Consistency is the key. Set a time each week (or each day if you are bold) to dedicate to your purposeful pursuit. Before you know it you will be where you would have only wished had you not placed a deadline on it.

Is this helping you? Let me know in the comments. If you’re pressing forward with me, write your goal and your deadline below. We’re going to hold each other accountable. Here’s mine: I will finish writing my book by January 31, 2016. I will do this by writing for at least an hour a week.

Finding Your Purpose: Your Why

purpose and passion - why do you do the things you do

When finding your purpose, you should begin by asking yourself questions. One of those questions is simply – why? If you don’t know why, you can’t find what, when, where and you definitely won’t figure out how. So let’s begin by pulling this simple, yet profound question apart.  Read More →

Finding Your Purpose: Ways to Rediscover You

finding your purposeFinding your purpose can be a difficult feat if you are constantly searching outside of yourself. Many times I hear people say things like:

I feel like there is more that I should be doing, like this isn’t all there is to life” or “I’m so burned out, I am frustrated with everything going on in my life“.
